The War Within is about the conflict between the flesh and the Spirit in the Life of the Christian. Every one of us knows the frustration and grief of desiring to do the Lord's will, but then falling short. This can happen to us over and over. It can become very discouraging to struggle against the same besetting sins. The apostle Paul knew what this was like. He wrote about it specifically in Galatians 5:17: "The desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do."

 

This eight-part sermon series takes us through Galatians 5:13–26 to explore the great conflict at the heart of the Christian life — where it comes from, why it will not go away, and why its presence is actually evidence of God's grace. Along the way, we will draw upon the rich wisdom of earlier saints to learn how the life of Christ in us wages war against sin, kills it, and brings forth the fruit of the Spirit. The battle is real — but so is the victory.
